IS THERE FINANCIAL HELP AVAILABLE?
These trips are entirely self-funding. No district, state or Federal funds are used to offset costs.
We have established a fund which is made up of parent and staff donations to help kids on the trip. In most cases, we can offer some relief to parents who need help with the trip costs. We do not want students to miss out on the opportunity to go if they are willing to follow the conduct and behavior guidelines. As long as funds are available, no one is denied help.
The amount of money in the fund varies from year to year and from trip to trip and once it has been depleted, we ask parents for help us to re-stock the fund.
The process for applying for help is extremely informal. On the contract for the trip is a box the parents can check when they send it in to register their child. At that point, they will then be contacted and asked what can be done to help.
We ask parents to realize that resources are finite and that we need to spread what we have among all the students who need help. To that end, parents should be aware that financial awards usually result in a small stipend to help out families. There are no free trips offered in this process. Still, parents have commented that what we can offer is of help and usually makes the difference in a child's attendance.
Over the years, we have given thousands of dollars in assistance to our families to make it possible for their children to go on these trips.
The fund is not available for help with chaperone costs
Some parents have returned the help years later after their financial situation changed which perpetuates the fund. Though not obligated to do this, we find parents constantly looking to "pay it forward"
Parents can also donate to the fund whenever they wish to help it keep stocked for students. The generosity witnessed here is inspiring as it shows parents believe in providing these opportunities for their children and others.
