We have all heard the story about the cherry tree which shows George Washington as a honest young man, but what other attributes did he have the earned him the title "Father of Our Country?" Is Washington the model that other potential leaders should emulate?
Procedure
Students will read the novel George Washington Leadership Lessons. There are different sections of the book. In the first section, we will uncover what Washington believed were the characteristics of a good leader. In the second section, students will read the Rules of Civility which Washington copied by hand. Are thes rules still applicable today? Can students find wisdom in the parables associated which these lessons in leadership?

While reading the novel, students will complete chapter questions which allow them to see how Washington's characteristics of good leaders relate to them. Students will review the rules of civility and take an exam which asks them to eleborate on a personal experience that is congruent with one of these civility rules.
